A prologue is an introductory scene in which the story BEFORE the beginning of the movie, a play or a story is explained. It is the how the movie, the play or the story begins.
For example, Star Wars' A long time ago in a galaxy far far away... is a prologue to the movie, because it explains what happened before the beginning of the movie.
