Rising action

In a storyline, the rising action is the part of the plot that builds between the initial incident towards the highest point of the story (climax).

For example, in the movie Avatar, the rising action is the events that happen between the initial incident (the protagonist getting lost in the forest after having been attacked by some animal) and the climax (when the humans decide to attack). Therefore, the rising action includes the protagonist entering the aboriginals' world and learning to live their way.
